Spinning Wings
Spinning Wings
I spun at lightning speed
So quick
But so soft as the thrum of a hummingbird’s wings
In the summer sunlight, such glaring gold it shone as
silver, as the sun and the moon confused us
In those days –
As we parted ways with the lives we’d lived before we came
Before we shrugged off the identities we’d worn like braids
for a lifetime
Abandoning what was familiar in pursuit of calm,
And something like a newborn,
A cry in the fresh morning air,
A miraculous testament to potential
And the recycling of everything we’d ever known.
